SharePoint and OneDrive: Important change to sharing files with external users

Microsoft is changing the sharing behavior for external recipients in SharePoint and OneDrive. This change affects all staff, students, and lecturers who currently share files or folders with people outside HM.

What does this mean for you?

• Microsoft will finalize the new sharing logic starting in July.
• Existing external sharing links will no longer work; an “Access Denied” message will appear.
• All externally shared content will need to be re-shared.

What do you need to do?

• After the change, review your existing external shares.
• Create new sharing links for external partners.
• Inform your external contacts that old links will no longer work.
